Delayed Clinical Care After Concussion May Prolong Recovery
Key clinical point: Receiving clinical care within 1 week of a concussion may be associated with faster recovery times, compared with having an initial clinic visit more than 1 week after the injury.
Major finding: In a logistic regression model, patients who received late care were 5.8 times more likely to have a recovery longer than 30 days.
Study details: A retrospective, cross-sectional study of 162 patients aged 12-22 years with symptomatic, sport-related concussion.
Disclosures: The first author disclosed grants from the National Football League and personal fees from APA Books and University of Pittsburgh projects outside the scope of this study.
