Proinflammatory diets up rheumatoid arthritis risk
Key clinical point: Proinflammatory diets are associated with increased C-reactive protein and subsequent rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Major finding: There was a significant association between the baseline Dietary Inflammatory Index score and subsequent development of RA (OR = 1.90 comparing individuals with the highest and lowest scores; P less than .01).
Study details: The study comprised 159 patients who participated in both Norfolk Arthritis Register (NOAR) and European Prospective Investigation of Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC).
