The best approach to duodenal Crohn’s disease remains somewhat subjective but experts have provided some guidelines on how to manage the disorder, according to a recent review. Investigators found:

• Although symptomatic duodenal Crohn’s disease is rare, when it does occur, it usually involves stricturing rather than inflammation or perforation.
• Most patients do not present with symptoms, which is why the disease is typically detected during imaging or endoscopy performed for other reasons.
• Non-surgical treatment includes proton pump inhibitors, corticosteroids, immunomodulatory drugs, and biologics.
• If the patient has symptomatic strictures, they can often be managed medically or endoscopically.
