New ADA Scientific Statement on CGM Systems
Diabetes Care; ePub 2017 Oct 25; Petrie, et al
The American Diabetes Association has published a scientific statement on improving the clinical value and utility of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices. The aim is to improve safety and efficacy in order to support the advancement of the technology in achieving its potential to improve quality of life and health outcomes for more people with diabetes. Among the recommendations for patient groups, health professionals, and medical associations:
- Provide and regularly update recommendations on CGM.
- Provide minimum standards of training for providers and people with diabetes using CGM, intermittently scanned CGM, and automated insulin delivery.
- Work to develop and disseminate structured company-independent education programs.
- Work together to provide wider access to CGM for all people with diabetes who are willing and able to use these devices on a near-daily basis.
