Children’s Anxiety During Asthma Exacerbations Linked to Better Outcomes

Key clinical point: Panic-fear during asthma exacerbations predicts better outcomes in Mexican and Puerto Rican children.

Major finding: Mexican and Puerto Rican children who reported asthma-specific panic-fear had less acute health care utilization at 1-year follow-up than did those without panic-fear (P = .03 and P = .02, respectively).

Study details: The findings are based on a 1-year cohort study of 79 Puerto Rican and 188 Mexican children with asthma from New York City and Arizona.

Disclosures: The research was funded by the National Institutes of Health. The authors reported no relevant financial disclosures.
