Comorbidities in Myasthenia Gravis
Identifying the most common associations
Comorbidities are frequent in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) and they might worsen the prognosis of MG, according to a study of 253 patients with MG. Researchers found:
• Comorbidities were found in 73% of patients.
• Most frequent associated disorders included: dyslipidemia, thyroid disease, diabetes, hypertension, and other autoimmune conditions.
• Patients with MG and thyoma, diabetes, dyslipidemia, dysthyroidism, and/or hypertension had higher rates of emergency room visits and myasthenic crises, and they required higher doses of drugs.
