FibroScan: M probe underestimates hepatic fat content

Key clinical point: Using an M probe for transient elastography (FibroScan) may underestimate hepatic fat content.

Major finding: The mean controlled attenuation parameter measured by the XL probe was 317 dB/m, compared with 310 dB/m for the M probe (P = .007).

Study details: A prospective study involving 100 adults with and without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
