RT’s Impact on Survival in Older DLBCL Patients

Leuk Lymphoma; 2017 Mar; Parikh,Yahalom

Consolidation radiotherapy (RT) was linked with better overall survival in older patients with early-stage diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) receiving chemoimmunotherapy in a study involving more than 1,700 individuals.

Participants—all of whom had DLBCL and received chemoimmunotherapy with or without RT—were >60 years of age. Investigators looked at the link between RT and overall survival over an 11-year period ending in 2008. Among the results:

  • RT use was linked with lower clinical stage, head/neck involved site, lack of 'B' symptoms, lower co-morbidity score, and higher socioeconomic status.
  • The 5-year overall survival in patients receiving RT was 80%; vs 70% in those who did not receive such.
  • After adjusting for certain variables, RT remained linked with improved overall survival.
  • RT use decreased to 29% from 39% over the course of the study.
