MR Enterography No Substitute for Endoscopy
J Pediatr Gastroenterol Nutr; ePub 2017 Dec 28; Church et al
Magnetic resonance enterography is not a reliable way to evaluate upper GI lesions in children with Crohn’s disease, concludes a study that compared MI enterography to esophagogastroduodenoscopy.
- Among 188 children who were evaluated, local and central radiologists could not agree on the existence of upper GI inflammation when using MR enterography (Kappa coefficient -0.02).
- MR enterography could not accurately confirm esophagogastroduodenoscopy findings.
- Investigators concluded that MR enterography is not an accurate way to assess upper GI inflammation in children, nor should it replace esophagogastroduodenoscopy, at least for this specific purpose.
