Better Quality of Care Initiatives Needed for IBD
Intest Res; 2018 Jan; Berry, Melmed, et al
Healthcare provider organizations need to pay more attention to quality of care initiatives to reduce variations in outcomes among patients with inflammatory bowel disease across the globe, according to a recent analysis. Among the findings:
- The significant variation in quality of care in North America, Europe, and Asia suggests that inadequate patient care may be the result of overuse, underuse, and misuse of health services.
- Quality of care initiatives that have been launched to address these concerns include:
o Quality indicator sets, the goal of which is to standardize care across healthcare providers,
o Developing learning health systems to let clinicians and patients share data, and
o Sharing of best practices among clinicians and healthcare organizations.
