Low–Glycemic-Index Diet Effective for Seizure Reduction
Key clinical point: Sticking to a low–glycemic-index diet (LGID) for 5 days per week was as effective as the stricter standard daily version and was preferred by caregivers and patients.
Major finding: The mean reduction in weekly seizure frequency was 54% in the strict LGID group and not significantly different at 49% in the intermittent LGID patients.
Study details: This was a randomized, double-blind, 24-week, noninferiority study involving 122 children aged 1-15 years with drug-refractory epilepsy.
