Diabetes-related amputations on the rise in older adults
Key clinical point: The rate of diabetes-related nontraumatic, lower-extremity amputations (NLEAs) in the United States increased recently among Medicare beneficiaries, echoing increases reported in younger populations in a previous study.
Major finding: Following a period of decline, the annual percentage increase in NLEAs among Medicare beneficiaries over the 2009 to 2017 period was 1.2 (P < 0.001).
