Hidradenitis suppurativa linked to acne keloidalis nuchae
Key clinical point: Physicians who manage acne keloidalis nuchae (AKN) should be aware of the association between hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and AKN given the chronic nature, the challenges with management and the impact on quality of life with both diseases.
Major finding: The prevalence of HS was higher in patients with AKN vs. controls (1.0% vs. 0.3%; odds ratio [OR], 3.6; P less than .001). The association was strongest in patients younger than 20 years of age (OR, 10.2; P less than .001) and female patients (OR, 15.7; P less than .001). After adjustments for confounding factors, the association between AKN and HS remained statistically significant (adjusted OR, 3.6; P less than .001).
Study details: This Israeli population-based study included 2,677 participants with AKN and 13,190 matched control participants.
Disclosures: This study did not receive any funding. The authors declared no conflicts of interest.
