Where Do Patients with Acne Get Their Information?

Dermatol Pract Concept; 2016 Apr 30; Nguyen, et al

People with acne use a variety of information sources, mainly from the internet, according to a survey administered to 49 acne patients. Among the findings:

• 9 in every 10 respondents said they think diet affects acne.

• 7 in every 10 tried to change their diet to improve acne.

• 7 in every 10 think fried/greasy foods are the culprit, followed by chocolate (53%), dairy (47%), and soda (35%).

• ~Half sought information from Google searches, followed by dermatologists (43%), family members and TV (41% each), and medical websites (31%).

The authors point to a need to establish up-to-date and reliable methods to educate patients on diet and acne.
