RA-related Autoantibodies and Pulmonary Function Test Abnormalities
Seropostive patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) had 2-fold risk for abnormalities on pulmonary function test (PFT) performed for clinical indications compared with seronegative PA, a new study found. Researchers studied RA serostatus and PFT abnormalities within a RA registry. They found:
- Among 1,272 analyzed participants, mean age was 56.3 years, 82.2% were female, and 69.5% were seropositive.
- Compared with seronegativity, seropositivity was associated with increased odds of any PFT abnormality.
- Higher titers of rheumatoid factor conferred greatest risk for all PFT outcomes: obstruction, restriction, and diffusion abnormality.
