Human Cytomegalovirus Seropositivity Linked to Less Bone Erosion in RA Patients
Key clinical point: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with positive human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) status showed less bone erosion, compared with patients with negative HCMV status.
Major finding: At a 1-year follow-up, bone erosion was significantly lower in RA patients with positive HCMV, compared with those who tested negative for HCMV (16.1% vs. 25.2%).
Study details: The data come from a review of 273 HCMV seropositive and 214 HCMV seronegative RA patients.
Disclosures: The study was supported by Institutional grants from the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). The researchers had no financial conflicts to disclose.
