Arthritis Care Res; ePub 2016 Mar 25; Deshpande, et al

More than half of all persons with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) are younger than 65 years of age, according to analysis of data from the National Health Interview Survey 2007-2008. Researchers found:

• About 14 million people had symptomatic knee OA, with advanced OA comprising more than half of those cases.

• That figure includes more than 3 million African American, Hispanic, and other racial/ethnic minorities.

• Adults aged ≤45 years accounted for nearly 2 million cases of symptomatic knee OA.

• Adults aged 45 to 65 years accounted for 6 million more cases of symptomatic knee OA.
