Would Rotovirus Vaccine Booster Make a Difference?
Vaccine; ePub 2017 Nov 20; Burnett, et al
The effectiveness of a rotovirus vaccine in developing countries would likely increase if a booster shot was given at 9 or 12 months, suggests a recent computer model study. Researchers found:
- The stepwise models employed in the analysis suggest that between 9,800 and 29,400 rotovirus-related deaths could be prevented as a result of the booster shot.
- Researchers calculated that the benefits of this approach would result from reduced vaccine effectiveness waning, reestablished vaccine effectiveness, and boosted vaccine effectiveness scenarios.
- Projected deaths that might be averted were calculated by using several metrics, including national level full series vaccination coverage and vaccine effectiveness before and after age 12 months based on the medical literature.
