RISE analyses highlight further youth vs. adult type 2 diabetes differences

Key clinical point: Type 2 diabetes is more aggressive in youth than adults and may need for earlier, intensive intervention.

Major finding: In youth with the incessant-increase glucose curve there was no evidence of beta-cell hypersecretion, which suggested they have more severe beta-cell dysfunction.

Study details: The Restoring Insulin SEcretion (RISE) studies: RISE Pediatric Medication Study (RISE Peds) and RISE Adult Medication Study (RISE Adult).

Disclosures: The RISE studies are sponsored by the RISE Study Group in collaboration with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Dr. Zeitler disclosed that he had been a consultant to Boehringer-Ingelheim, Eli Lilly, Daiichi-Sankyo and Merck, Sharp & Dohme, and had received research support from Janssen. Dr. Arslanian stated that she has nothing to disclose. Dr. Khan did not provide any disclosure information.
