“Dripping” e-Cigarettes the Latest Teen Concern
Pediatrics; 2017 Mar 1, Krishnan-Sarin, et al
Teens are now using a technique called “dripping” to get a more potent burst from their e-cigarettes, according to a new report. Dripping involves vaporizing a cigarette’s liquid by dripping a few drops into an atomizer and then inhaling the resulting vapor. Because these vapors are generated at high temperatures, they expose users to toxic chemicals, including formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acetone. The reported indicated that among 1,080 e-cigarette users from 8 Connecticut high schools, more than 1 in 4 had been dripping (26.1%). The students offered several reasons for dripping, including:
- Thicker vapor clouds
- Enhanced flavor
- A stronger throat hit
- Curiosity
Male teens, whites, and those who had tried several other tobacco products were more inclined to use dripping.
