Risk of suicide attempt is higher in children of opioid users
Key clinical point: Based on evidence of increased suicide risk, children of parents using opioids might be candidates for mental health screening.
Major finding: The odds ratio of a suicide attempt nearly doubled (OR 1.99) in children whose parents have extensive opioid exposure.
