Zika Virus Infection Among US Pregnant Travelers
MMWR; ePub 2016 Feb 26; Meaney-Delman, et al
As of February 17, 2016, 9 US pregnant travelers with Zika virus infection had been identified with no Zika virus-related hospitalizations or deaths reported among pregnant women. Pregnancy outcomes included 2 early pregnancy losses, 2 elective terminations, and 3 live births (2 apparently healthy infants and 1 infant with severe microcephaly); 2 pregnancies (10 weeks and 34 weeks gestation) are continuing without known complications. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) had previously issued a travel alert advising pregnant women to consider postponing travel to areas with ongoing local transmission of Zika virus. In addition, the CDC released interim guidelines for Zika virus testing for pregnant women with a history of travel while pregnant to areas with ongoing Zika virus transmission.
