Consider treating ovarian torsion with conservative surgery in young women

Key clinical point: Women with ovarian torsion who underwent conservative surgery had a lower rate of perioperative complications than did those who had an oophorectomy.

Major finding: 12% of patients who underwent an oophorectomy experienced perioperative complications, compared with 8% of patients who had conservative surgery.

Study details: A retrospective, observational study of 89,801 women who had ovarian torsion and were treated with either conservative surgery or oophorectomy during Jan. 2001–Sept. 2015.

Disclosures: Dr. Mandelbaum reported no relevant conflicts of interest.
