Guideline care improves survival for women with ovarian cancer, yet guideline care is underutilized, a recent study found. Receipt of guideline care and 2-year cause-specific survival was assessed in this retrospective cohort analysis that included 6,427 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2002 and 2011. Researchers found:

• Receipt of guideline care improved modestly from 2002 to 2011.
• However, less than half of women received guideline surgery with no increase from 2002 to 2011.
• Multiagent chemotherapy use increased, but rates remained low.
• Most women consulted a gynecologist oncologist in 2011 yet did not receive guideline care.
• Low rates of guideline care may explain lack of improvement in 2-year survival rates.
