The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that there were 157 and 122 pregnant women (symptomatic and asymptomatic) with laboratory evidence of possible Zika virus infection residing in the US states and US territories, respectively. Among the 157 pregnant women from US states and the District of Columbia monitored, 73 (49%) reported clinical symptoms consistent with Zika virus disease. Among these symptomatic pregnant women, 64 (88%) reported rash, 36 (49%) arthralgia, 37 (51%) fever, and 17 (23%) conjunctivitis.

This report launches a weekly reporting of pregnant women with laboratory evidence of possible Zika virus infection in the US state and territories and is intended to assist health care providers who counsel pregnant women and to help facilitate planning services for affected families.
