Asthma exacerbation in pregnancy impacts moms, babies
Key clinical point: Women with asthma who experience asthma exacerbation while pregnant are at increased risk of adverse outcomes for themselves.
Major finding: Significantly more women with exacerbated asthma during pregnancy had preeclampsia or pregnancy-induced hypertension, compared with asthmatic women without exacerbations during pregnancy (5% vs. 4% and 7% vs. 5%, respectively).
Study details: The data come from a population-based cohort study of 58,524 women with asthma.
