Vitamin D Level’s Impact on Attaining Response

Clin Breast Cancer; ePub 2017 Dec 11; Chiba, et al

Low vitamin D levels in women with breast cancer was linked with a failure to attain pathologic complete response in a study involving 144 individuals. Participants included American and French women who had their vitamin D level measured before or during neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Investigators looked at vitamin D deficiency and pathologic complete response. Among the results:

  • Average BMI in US women was 28.8, vs 24.8 in the French cohort.
  • Average vitamin D levels were 27.5 and 21.5 ng/mL, respectively.
  • After adjusting for certain variables, patients with vitamin D deficiency were more than twice as likely to not attain pathologic complete response.
