Alzheimer’s Disease Subtypes Follow Neuropathologic Patterns Seen in The Nucleus Basalis of Meynert

Key clinical point: Patterns of neurofibrillary tangles in the nucleus basalis of Meynert (nbM) vary with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) subtype.

Major finding: The number of neurofibrillary tangles in the nbM was highest in hippocampal-sparing AD and lowest in limbic predominant AD.

Study details: The retrospective autopsy study comprised 1,361 samples from confirmed AD cases.
