Brain abscess with lung infection? Think <i>Nocardia<i>
Key clinical point: A brain abscess in the presence of a lung infection should raise suspicion for Nocardia, whether patients are immunocompromised or not.
Major finding: Patients with a Nocardia brain abscess were far more likely to have a concomitant lung infection (86% vs. 2%; OR, 246; 95% CI 21-2953; P less than .0001).
