Secondary bile acid deficiency may be culprit in UC inflammation
Key clinical point: Dysbiosis induces secondary bile acid deficiencies that promote intestinal inflammation.
Major finding: Average deoxycholic acid counts were 60,957 in familial adenomatous polyposis versus 1,593 in ulcerative colitis.
Study details: Stool profiles of 17 patients with ulcerative colitis and 7 with familial adenomatous polyposis, plus mouse studies of secondary bile acid supplementation.
