Heart failure outcomes are worse in select HIV-infected individuals
Key clinical point: Low CD4 count and detectable viral load are risk factors for worse heart failure outcomes in HIV-infected individuals.
Major finding: The 30-day heart failure readmission rate was higher among people living with HIV versus non-HIV–infected individuals (49% vs. 32%; P less than .001).
Study details: A cohort study of 2,308 individuals admitted to the hospital with decompensated heart failure.
