Fewer people are dying from systemic sclerosis at younger ages
Key clinical point: Mortality of people with systemic sclerosis (SSc) aged 44 and younger now rivals the death rate for the general population in that age group.
Major finding: The ratio of SSc to non-SSc ASMRs between 1968 and 2015 in the group aged 44 and younger declined 20.0%, whereas there was a 53.1% cumulative increase in the 45- to 64-year-old group and a 395.4% cumulative increase in the 65-year-old and older group.
Study details: An analysis of 46,798 adults who died from SSc-related causes between 1968 and 2015 compared with adults who died in the general population over the same time period.
