Thyroid Ca After Hodgkin Lymphoma Evaluated

Leuk Lymphoma; 2017 Sep 1; Chowdhry, et al

Even though people with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) are at significantly greater risk of thyroid cancer, having HL previously is not linked with more aggressive forms of cancer or worse prognosis, according to a study involving nearly 140,000 individuals. Participants had either primary thyroid cancer (n=139,297) or thyroid cancer after HL (n=174). Investigators looked at outcomes in the 2 groups, as well as a possible link between HL history and overall survival after thyroid cancer. Among the results:

  • HL history was linked with neither anaplastic nor sarcoma thyroid cancer.
  • There was also no link between HL history and difference in risk of death after thyroid cancer.
