Rates of EBV-Positive DLBCL Higher in Jordan, Turkey

Key clinical point: A retrospective study suggests the prevalence of Epstein Barr virus–positive (EBV+) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is higher in Jordan and Turkey, compared with western countries.

Major finding: After in situ hybridization analysis, 10% of Jordanian patients and 12% Turkish patients were positive for EBV-encoded RNA 1. Other studies have shown an incidence of 0%-4% in the United States.

Study details: A retrospective case series of 100 patients with DLBCL. Fifty cases were from patients in Jordan and 50 cases were from patients in Turkey.
