ALL After Cesarean Delivery
Lancet Hematol. ePub 2016 Feb 26; Marcotte, et al
There may be an increased risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) after prelabor cesarean delivery, according to a study of pooled data for which the birth delivery method was known, including 8,655 ALL cases, 1,292 acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cases, and 23,351 controls. Researchers found:
• Odds ratio (OR) for all indications of cesarean delivery and ALL was 1.06, and was significant for prelabor cesarean and ALL (OR=1.23).
• Emergency cesarean delivery was not associated with ALL (OR=1.02).
• AML was not associated with cesarean delivery (all indications OR=0.99; prelabor cesarean delivery OR=0.83; and emergency cesarean delivery OR=1.05).
