These Lymphoma Subtypes Fare Worse After ASCT

J Clin Oncol; ePub 2016 Oct 17; Herrera, et al

Double-hit lymphomas (DHLs) and double-expressor lymphomas (DELs) are both linked with worse outcomes after autologous stem cell transplant in patients with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, according to a study involving 117 individuals.

Investigators performed immunohistochemistry for MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for MYC. In certain cases, FISH for BCL2 and BCL6 was also performed. Among the results:

  • 44% had DEL and 10% had DHL.
  • Both types of lymphoma were linked with worse progression-free survival.
  • DHL was linked with worse overall survival.
  • 4-year progression-free survival in patients with DEL was 48%, vs 59% in those with non-DEL; overall survival rates were 56% and 67%, respectively.
  • The DHL/non-DHL progression-free and overall survival rates were 28%/57% and 35%/61%, respectively.
