Radiation Therapy for Advanced Hodgkin Lymphoma

Leuk Lymphoma; ePub 2016 Jun 24; Son, Chiu, et al

Radiation therapy improves survival in stage III to IV Hodgkin lymphoma, yet it was used increasingly less over a 23-year period ending in 2011, according to a study involving nearly 10,000 individuals.

Investigators analyzed data from the SEER registry. Among their findings:

• Radiation use declined to 16% in 2011 from 25% in 1988.

• 5-year overall survival for stage III and IV patients who received no radiation therapy was 79%, vs 88% in those who did.

• Among people diagnosed after 2000, those who received radiation therapy experienced better overall survival vs those who were not treated with radiation.
