Ectopic Pregnancy Linked to IBD
Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol; ePub 2017 Jul 7; de Silva, et al
Women with Crohn’s disease are more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy, according to a large scale observational study that looked at pregnancies nationwide between 1994 and 2015. Details of the analysis are as follows:
- Women with Crohn’s disease were about 23% more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy (odds ratio, 1.23), when compared to women without any inflammatory bowel disease.
- The risk of ectopic pregnancy among women with ulcerative colitis, on the other hand, was not significantly different (OR, 0.98).
- The likelihood of developing ectopic pregnancy among women who had surgery for Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis before they became pregnant was also higher when compared to those with IBD who had no surgery, but the difference failed to reach statistical significance.
