Implementation of Patient-Reported Outcomes in HF

J Card Fail; ePub 2017 Oct 2; Stehlik, et al

Implementation of real-time assessment of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) into the electronic health records (EHR) was feasible in a large outpatient population of patients with heart failure (HF), a recent study found. Researchers examined the practicality of PRO completion at the time of HF clinic visit, the time required to complete the selected instruments, completion rate, and the feasibility of immediate PRO scoring and integration of the results in the EHR. They found:

  • In a 12-month period, 862 unique patients (mean age 60.1±16.3 years, 66% male) completed 1,320 PRO assessments.
  • The average time for PRO assessment was 6.7 minutes, the completion rate among eligible patients was 58%, with 91% of started assessments completed.
