Neonatal Epileptic Syndromes Surprisingly Common
Key clinical point: Two-thirds of severe epilepsies of infancy were classified as prototypic syndromes.
Major finding: Nearly one in six of severe epilepsies of infancy identified in a major study involved one of the neonatal or early infantile syndromes.
Study details: This was a population-based epidemiologic study of the incidence, etiologies, and outcomes of all cases of severe epilepsies of infancy occurring in the Australian state of Victoria in a 2-year period.
