Femoral head decompression relieves SCD hip pain
Key clinical point: Core decompression with bone marrow aspirate concentrate (CD+BMAC) produced clinically significant improvements in pain and function in sickle cell patients, versus core decompression (CD) alone.
Major finding: Among the CD+BMAC patients, pain scores declined two points on average, from 6 preoperatively to 4 postoperatively.
Study details: Single-center study of 35 hips in 29 sickle cell disease patients with an average of 3.6 years of follow-up.
Disclosures: Dr. Fornari reported having no financial disclosures.
