Ethnicity appears to impact predisposition to components of metabolic syndrome
Key clinical point: Hispanics had a higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes compared with non-Hispanics, regardless of body mass index.
Major finding: Asians had a higher prevalence of hyperlipidemia (28.4%) compared with whites (25.6%; P = .004); both groups had a higher prevalence compared with African Americans (21.9%, P less than .001).
