How Type 1 Diabetes Impacts Daily Life

Clin Diabetes; ePub 2018 Jan 10; Gopisetty, et al

People with type 1 diabetes have different emotional and physical needs than those with type 2 diabetes, researchers concluded after conducting an online survey of >7,000 patients and caregivers. Similar to those with type 2 diabetes, many respondents noted that patients with type 1 diabetes failed to reach A1C targets established by American Diabetes Association and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. They also reported stress, time demands, and costs as large barriers to self-care. Beyond glycemic control, patients with type 1 diabetes reported encountering negative impacts on school, work, future planning, self-confidence, and social interactions.
