Topical benzyl benzoate–based treatment reduced Demodex in patients with rosacea
Key clinical point: A benzoyl benzoate (BB) cream was effective in clearing or reducing demodicosis, with improvements in rosacea symptoms.
Major finding: In the retrospective observational study, all concentrations of BB (12% once daily, 12% twice daily, and 20%024% once daily) effected similar rates of clearance, with normalization of Demodex densities in 35% and symptoms resolved in 46%.
Study details: A retrospective observational study of 394 patients with rosacea or demodicosis, treated for a mean of 2.7 months with a BB cream.
Disclosures: Dr. Forton disclosed that he occasionally works as a consultant for Galderma; the second author had no disclosures. The study had no funding source.
