Best Practices Recently Reviewed
Dermatol Clin; 2016 Apr; Layton
Best practices for managing acne safely and effectively were provided in a recent review. In particular, the authors noted that acne scarring will more likely occur if treatment is delayed. It is imperative to determine how long acne has been present in patients when they present for an exam.
Also recommended:
• Consider antibiotic prescribing policies.
• Identify and treat macrocomedones before proceeding with oral treatment.
• Consider fatty food intake.
The authors pointed out the need to optimize available treatment regimens according to the evidence, target therapy to pathophysiologic factors, and tailor treatments to patient expectations and needs.
