Addressing Free Radical Oxidation in Acne Vulgaris

J Clin Aesthet Dermatol; 2016 Jan; Mills, et al

Topical antioxidants may play a role in limiting free radical oxidation in patients with acne, according to an evaluation of 17 individuals with mild-to-moderate acne.

Investigators tested an antioxidant, topical vitamin E, in an 8-week, open-label study. All patients were using salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide at baseline, to which the study medication was added.

All patients experienced a reduction in the number of lesions and global mean difference. A statistically significant reduction was noted as early as Week 2. Patients also reported good tolerability and easy application.
