Obtaining Research Funding as an Orthopedic Surgery Resident
Jesse E. Bible, MD
Although research funding in general is becoming more limited, orthopedic surgery residents still have a wide array of potential sources for obtaining funding. Like any young investigator, the first and foremost important step in the process should be selecting a research mentor and project. Next, all available sources of funding should be investigated, especially designated resident grants. Possible avenues of funding include the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, orthopedic subspecialty organizations, non–orthopedic medical/research foundations, and private foundations. The goals, budget, and timeline of the research project should always be remembered when considering which grants to apply for. [Introductory paragraph given in lieu of abstract.]
