CD59 Levels in Neuromyelitis Optica and Multiple Sclerosis
Compared with noninflammatory neurological disorders
High cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of CD59 in patients with neuromeyelitis optica (NMO) or multiple sclerosis (MS) may reflect inflammation, damage, and/or complement activation in the central nervous system. This according to analysis of CSF levels of CD59 in 30 patients with NMO, 22 patients with MS, and 24 patients with noninflammatory neurological disorders (NINDs). Researchers found:
• CSF CD59 levels in patients with NMO and MS were higher than those in patients with NINDs.
• CSF CD59 levels decreased after treatment in patients with NMO.
• No significant correlation were found between CSF CD59 levels and clinical and laboratory parameters in NMO and MS.
