Cognitive Focus in Relapsing-Remitting MS
Associating perceptions with acceptance
Among patients with remitting relapsing multiple sclerosis (RRMS), avoiding contemplation of negative past and concentrating on hedonistic future constitute significant predictors of illness acceptance, according to a study of patients with RRMS. Researchers found:
• Patients with RRMS focus on fatalistic and hedonistic present more than healthy individuals.
• Patients with RRMS reflect on their negative past experiences.
• Acceptance of illness correlated positively with subjective assessment of physical and psychological condition as well as self-reliance, and correlated negatively with objective disability score and a factor considering disease duration.
