Rather than applying the results of clinical research “blindly,” neurologists should seek more targeted therapies, said Dr. Ramadan. “We need to be more open-minded in terms of how we approach [migraine] and treat it.
“The evidence for glutamatergic involvement in the migraine mechanism is highly compelling,” Dr. Ramadan said. However, he added, the clinical evidence for glutamatergic modulation in migraine remains unknown, and further research is needed.
